So mitten im “Sommer” ein neues Album zu releasen ist immer schwierig, da einfach viele Leute offline und/oder im Urlaub sind. Die Gefahr, dass das Release baden geht ist hoch. Damit nicht auch die neuste Veröffentlichung meines Lieblings-Netlabels id.eology nasse Füße bekommt, erhält es mit diesem Beitrag ein paar Schwimmflügel, um damit entspannt durch das Sommerloch zu plantschen.
Die “Durban Chamber LP” ist das erste Release von Dubsalon bei id.eology. Dubsalon war “aktiver Musiker an der Gitarre in den 90ern, Toningenieur und Produzent von Bands verschiedenster Provenienz in seinem eigenen Studio während der 2000er und heutzutage mit allen Wassern gewaschener Dubzauberer.”
Mit acht Tracks ist das Album gut gefüllt und es gibt keinen einzigen Song, den man skippen muss – was bei vielen Netaudio-Releases sehr oft nötig ist. Ganz im Gegenteil überzeugt mich der Sound vollkommen, alle Tracks sind geschmeidige Dub-Songs und man merkt schnell, das hier ein Musiker mit Verstand, Geschmack und reichlich Können am Werk war.
Doch damit nicht genug: id.eology geht mit dieser Realease auch einen neuen Weg. TBF-Mitgründer, Blogrebell und Echochamber-Beschaller Saetchmo konnte von den Sympatischen Netzmusikern gewonnen werden und streute etwas von seiner Magie über Dubsalons Tracks, dampfte sie zu einem halbstündigen, wunderbar groovig-verdrehten Mix ein.
I first heard Dubsalon at ReggaeDubWise and immediately fell in love with his dub. When I heard from Volker, over at Id.EOLOGY that Dubsalon was making and album, and it would come out on the netlabel, I knew that would be something to look forward to.
That time has now come and Id.EOLOGY presents Durban Chamber: an 8-track album featuring some of the best dub you’ll hear coming out of Argentina.
There’s nothing minimal or dubtech going on here. It’s full-phat dub, from a master. As soon as you hear the driving bass of In A Dream, you know you’re going to be “in the zone” for the duration. Shifting Mood, lives up to it’s name by synthesing bleepy electronica, accordion and wobbly bass drops.
There are the typical dubby vocal samples spread through the album, but essentially the album is instrumental. Although staying true to dub throughout, Dubsalon plays with dubstep, downbeat, electronica and jazzy influences. Yes, there’s harmonica, yes there are bleeps and echos, but this is true “magpie music”, and every track brings in a new influence.
There’s a surprising lack of a Latin American feel, considering Dubsalon comes from Argentina. Not to say that it’s missing entirely, just subdued. By the time you get to the last track, From The Sea, there’s a definitely a “watery” vibe going on.
Not content with 8-tracks, the album also contains an additional 7-track mix put together by Saetchmo. He is of course the resident DJ of the Berlin #tassebier posse from Kreuzberg Berlin’s Blogrebellen, with whom I had such a great time when I was last in the city. Not only that, but producer of the weekly Echochamber show, which is a must for all dub-heads.

Não se cingindo à básica repetição de loops, todos os temas do álbum (sempre com duração superior a 5m), evoluem e transformam-se desde a intro até ao final, numa muito interessante demonstração de personalidade electrónica e eléctrica por parte de Dubsalon.
Durban Chamber, vem ainda com um bónus mix de 30 minutos pela parte do conhecido DJ Saetchmo, que reconstrói os temas do álbum num DJ mix de alto nível.
Lançamento de estreia para o produtor argentino, na net label iD.EOLOGY, projecto online que acima de tudo se afirma como uma plataforma para música e imagem.

Das ist wohl der Soundtrack dieses Sommers. Tiefe Bässe die die Großwetterlage vergessen lassen und einen auch mal tiefer in die heimische Wohnlandschaft drücken. Jemals noch mal aufstehn?, aufstehn?, aufst ..., so könnte ein Echo erklingen und uns lieber noch mal genüsslich an einem Drink nippen lassen.
Dubsalon aus Argentinien haben Dub als Form des relaxten Downbeats in Höchstform auf dem Netlabel iD.EOLOGY veröffentlicht. Durban Chamber heisst das grosse Werk in dem neben vielen verspielten Melodien, Rhythmen und elektronischen Versatzstücken auch mal eine Tango-Harmonka auftaucht.
Abtauchen und wieder an die Oberfläche kommen - bei geschlossenen Augen wird das Sofa zum Spaceship oder der Nautilus und Dubsalon liefern den Soundtrack bei der Reise des Geistes zu neuen Ufern der Erkenntnis. Zuhören, entspannen und die Zeit vergessen - dazu braucht man keine zusätzlichen Drogen. Vielleicht ist diese Musik auch ideal um einen Entschlackungstag einzulegen.
Die Radiofabrik freut sich also auf ein frohes und gesundes Wochenende und empfiehlt eine grosse Dosis Dubsalon in Hörenswert am Freitag den 5. August um 14.06 h (Wiederholung am Donnerstag 11. August um 00.00 h).

English: An echo is ... an echo is ... an echo. And sometimes it's something like a musical instrument. It might be rhythmic, it might vary in pitch, and - put to smart use - it might add patterns, beats, even harmonies or the odd psychedelic moment to a track. Ever since Lee "Scratch" Perry first whacked a garbage pan in the Black Ark studio, dubheads worldwide have known and appreciated these qualities.
Being the echo's birthplace, the echo-chamber logically is the temple for Dubsalon in which to celebrate his very own dub-ritual with his iD.EOLOGY debut. Following the old ancestor's motto of "Anything can be dub.", he remains open to the most different influences and easily avoids being reduced to reggae and roots. Next to some sofa-fit bass and a fair lot of echo-artistry Dubsalon's multi-dimensional tracks offer enough space for elements from dubstep, funk, electronica, hiphop, downbeat, lounge and jazz. Effortlessly, his varied sound oscillates inbetween pop and psychedelic, inbetween listenability and limitlessness, electric and electronic, inbetween full-on and far-out. With an audible passion for slick production and just the right pinch of live-elements, Dubsalon effectively cooks all of this into an equally relaxing, rousing and reality-bending concentrate of thick, tasty dubby treacle.
Here to speak the prayers is a brother in faith, a high-priest of dub and a true low-frequency connaisseur: Saetchmo. Be it as a resident DJ of the Berlin #tassebier posse around Kreuzberg's Blogrebellen, be it as the host of his very own weekly Echochamber show: saving bassjunkies like us from cold turkey through extra classy DJing skills is his everyday routine. Saetchmo was kind enough to sprinkle some of his magic over Dubsalon's tracks, and has mixed them down into half an hour of headnodding, trippy goodness.
So obviously, just like the echo itself, this album comes in and with plenty of different facets. What it really has in common with the echo, though, is another thing: you'll listen to it again and again ... and again ... and again.
Deutsch: Ein Echo ist ... ein Echo ist ... ein Echo. Und manchmal ist es auch sowas wie ein musikalisches Instrument. Es kann rhythmisch sein, kann in der Tonhöhe variieren, und kann - findig eingesetzt - einem Track Muster, Beats, sogar Harmonien und den einen oder anderen psychdelischen Moment hinzufügen. Als Geburtsstätte des Echos ist die Echokammer folgerichtig der Tempel, in dem Dubsalon mit seinem iD.EOLOGY Debut sein ganz persönliches Dub-Ritual zelebriert. Dem Altvorderen-Motto "Anything can be dub." folgend, bleibt er dabei für unterschiedlichste Einflüsse offen und vermeidet es lässig, auf Reggae und Roots reduziert zu werden. Neben sofatauglichen Bässen und allerlei Echoartistik lassen Dubsalons multi-dimensionale Beats ausreichend Raum für Elemente aus Dubstep, Funk, Electronica, Hiphop, Downbeat, Lounge and Jazz. Scheinbar mühelos oszilliert sein variantenreicher Sound zwischen Pop und Psychedelic, zwischen Greifbarkeit und Grenzenlosigkeit, elektrisch und elektronisch, zwischen full-on und far-out. Mit hörbarer Leidenschaft für smarte Produktion und einer feinen Prise Live-Elemente kocht Dubsalon all das zu einem ebenso entspannenden und euphorisierenden wie eskapistischen Konzentrat aus dickflüssigem Dub-Sirup auf.
Die Gebete spricht ein Bruder im Geiste, ein Hohepriester des Dub und echter Niederfrequenzconnaisseur: Saetchmo. Wie das Echo selbst gibt es also auch dieses Album in und mit vielen unterschiedlichen Facetten. Was es aber eigentlich mit dem Echo gemein hat, ist etwas anderes: man hört es wieder und wieder ... und wieder ... und wieder.
